What do I do if the enrollment URL doesn't work?

If the enrollment URL doesn't work, contact the instructor or administrator who signed you up. Let that person know the manner in which the process failed...for example it didn't connect to a valid URL or it displayed another error. If necessary the instructor or administrator can provide a new enrollment URL.

When I clicked my enrollment link an unusual sign-in page opened and it wouldn't accept my credentials. What's wrong?

You can log into the Microsoft Online Learning site using either a Microsoft account or an Office 365 account. Each type of account has its own sign-in page. If the sign-in page seemed unusual to you, it was probably the "other" one from the one you normally use. If you try to use a Microsoft account login on the O365 page, or vice versa, the site won't be able to find your account.

The enrollment link you received specifies the account type used by the admin when logging in to enroll you. If you click the link it will go directly to the sign-in page for that account type. If you need to log in with a different account type, you can request a different link from the admin or use the following work-around to get to the correct page.

The enrollment link to sign in using a Microsoft account looks like this:

https://itacademy.microsoft.com/AccessCodeRedemption?whr=uri:MicrosoftAccount&key=xxxxxxxxx

The enrollment link to sign in using an O365 account looks like this:

https://itacademy.microsoft.com/AccessCodeRedemption?whr=urn:federation:MicrosoftOnline&key=xxxxxxxxx

The series of x's in each link represents your enrollment key...this will be different for ach enrollment link. The section between "whr=" and "&key=" determines the type of login credential expected. If your link takes you to the wrong page for your credentials, there are two ways you can edit the link to solve this.

  • Replace the text between the = and & with the text from the other link type. This should take you directly to the sign-in page for that credential type.
  • Replace the text between the = and the & with the word default. This should take you to a page where you can click Sign in to go to another where you can choose which type of account to use. The link would look like this:

    https://itacademy.microsoft.com/AccessCodeRedemption/EnrollmentCode?whr=default&key=xxxxxxxxx.

Can I change the email address I use to sign in?

Unfortunately, it cannot be changed. If you have a need to do this, you should contact your instructor or program administrator. They would have to create a brand new user account for you and it would not have the course activity or history from your earlier account associated to it.

What do I do if my sign in attempts fail?

If your Microsoft Account or Office 365 sign in fails, click the Contact Us link in the footer for assistance. If your school account fails, contact your school.

What do I do if I get an error that my subscription has expired?

Contact the administrator who provided you access. If this isn't possible or doesn't help, click the Contact Us link the footer for assistance.

How do I connect to the Administration site?

Assuming that you are an administrator, you can connect to http://itacademy.microsoft.com/administration and sign in.

I selected the Keep me signed in check box, but now I would like to sign in with a different account. Can I do that?

Yes. If you saved your credentials (that is, you selected the Keep me signed in check box), you can still sign in with a different account. On the IT Academy home page, in the upper-right corner (next to your user name or email address), click the drop-down arrow. From the menu, select Sign out. Clear your browser cache, and then close the browser. Then, open your browser, go to the IT Academy sign-in page, and click Sign in. Select an account option, and then sign in with different credentials.

Some of my learning plans from the previous system seem to be missing. Did some learning plans not migrate?

In a few rare cases, learning plans from the previous system could not be migrated. There are two reasons for this:

  • Too many courses in the learning plan. Learning plans containing over 50 courses were not migrated. In-progress courses from the learning plans will appear for the learner in My Courses, under the Courses I Added section. Completed courses from these learning plans will appear for the learner in My Achievements under the courses I Added section.
  • Zero courses in the learning plan.

The names of unmigrated learning plans are listed in the table below along with the reason not migrated:

Windows 7 or higher

Browser:

Internet Explorer 9 or higher

Chrome 25.0.1364.172 or higher

Firefox 19.0.1 or higher

Recommended System

Windows 8

Browser:

Current version of Internet Explorer

Broadband Internet Connection

Note: If your system is set to the minimum resolution, or close to it, you might explore the scaling option in your browser for the optimum view when working in a course.

Note: Virtual labs require Internet Explorer, since they use Active X controls.

Do some courses have specific requirements?

Yes, some courses do have specific requirements. To view course requirements, sign in to your account, click My Courses, click the desired course title, and then click System Requirements.

Are existing courses ever updated?

Yes. If a course that is listed in your My Courses list is updated, a notice will be displayed directly above the course listing. The notice will state that the course has been updated, and give the date the new version was released. If you have already completed this course, your achievement will remain unchanged, unless you open it to view an added module. In that case, you will need to re-complete the course once you have started the new module.

Why do I get a message about only secure content being displayed?

This message is telling you that there may be both secure and non-secure content on the page. Secure and non-secure content, or mixed content, means that a webpage is trying to display elements using both secure (HTTPS/SSL) and non-secure (HTTP) web server connections.

For more information and instructions on how to disable this notification, read this article on the Microsoft Support site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2625928#method2.

When attempting to view a course video a dialog is displayed asking if I want to display mixed content. What should I do?

Click Yes to continue.

To prevent this message from being shown again:

  1. Click Tools at the top of the browser menu bar.
  2. Click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab at the top.
  4. Click the Custom Level... button.
  5. Scroll about halfway down to the Miscellaneous heading.
  6. Under this heading is the Display mixed content option; set this to Enable.
  7. Click OK, then Yes when prompted to confirm the change
  8. Click OK to close the Internet Options window.
  9. Close and restart your browser.

Note: The exact wording may vary depending on your version of IE, but the general steps are the same for all recent versions.

Why do I get an error when I try to run a virtual lab?

Virtual labs require Internet Explorer, since they use Active X controls. To run a lab, you can use Internet Explorer and then switch back to your preferred browser for the rest of the course content.

Can I download a course and view it offline?

No. At this time courses can be viewed only online.

Why don't I see the correct courses when browsing a catalog?

This could sometimes happen in case of a caching issue. Please close the browser or clear the browser cache to check if the issue is resolved

Why can't I search by course number?

Currently the search results are filtered by the course language selected while browsing and searching. If the course you are searching is in a different language as compared to the course language selected, then you will not be able to view the same in the search results. Please change the course language filter to match with the course number you are searching for.

Why are there no results when searching for a course?

The search results are based on the subscription available to you and the language filter you have applied. Please make sure that you have selected the right course language and also check with your administrator if your subscription is active.

Why don't I see my progress data for the courses I had taken in the earlier eLearning system?

User progress data is only available for the courses that were published to the Microsoft Elearning platform at GA release. All subsequent courses published to the platform will be treated as new courses and user progress data will not be available upon migration. Please see table below for the list of courses that were published post GA; if your course is among these you will not be able to see any progress data for the same.

Why do I see a blank screen when attempting to view a course via a Remote Desktop connection?

Some Microsoft Online Learning courses are protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM). By design, courses protected by DRM cannot be viewed over remote desktop connection or virtual machine sessions. If you try to view a course protected by DRM over remote desktop and/or virtual machine session the course will simply display a blank screen with no content.

Why do I see NOEMAIL@NONE.COM as my email address?

If your account was moved from another courseware management server that didn't provide a contact email address for you, this placeholder, followed by some numbers, is stored in your profile. You can edit your profile to set the correct contact email address, or an administrator or instructor may do this if they have the information.

How can I provide feedback on this site?

Click the Feedback link in the footer and submit any feedback you have.

Why is the report I printed messed up?

The reports are designed to be printed in landscape orientation. If you print in portrait orientation some information may be missing or truncated.

Why can't I rewind or fast forward through a video?

You can. Hold down the Next button to fast forward or the Previous button to move rapidly in reverse.

How do I get Labs to work in IE11?

There is currently a compatibility issue between IE11 and the RDP ActiveX plugin used to deliver labs. In order for Labs to work in Internet Explorer 11 please configure your browser as follows:

To configure your browser:

  1. Disable EPM (enabled by default) by doing the following:

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Security Section and disable EPM.

  2. Disable ActiveX filtering:

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 go to Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Custom level > ActiveX controls and plug-ins > Allow ActiveX Filtering and select disable.

  3. Verify that 64-bit process for Enhanced Protection Mode is disabled (disabled by default):

In Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab > Security Section and verify that Enable 64-bit processes for Enhanced Protected Mode is disabled. If enabled, disable and then restart your computer.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are working with the Internet Explorer team to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

Why is there no content listed when I browse the catalog for certain topics?

We are yet to create content for some of the topics in the catalog. Once this content is published, you will be able to browse and search for the same.

What if the course won't play in my Internet browser?

Some legacy courses contain HTC (HTML component) file references. HTC is not supported for IE9 and above and hence these courses will not play well in the same browser. As a workaround, you can press F12 and choose to play the courses in IE8 browser compatibility mode or you can play them in Firefox and Chrome browsers.

How do I go to Administrator experience?

Please visit https://itacademy.microsoft.com/administration to manage learning experiences for your organization. You would need Administrator or Instructor permissions to get access.

How do I specify the site language and the course language?

On the Profile page, you can select the default site language. This will change the site accordingly and also while browsing and searching for courses, this default language will be pre-selected in the course language filter. You can change this setting in the language filter if you want to search for courses in any other language. Please note that changing this filter will not change your site language.

Why does the order of organizations in the list keep changing?

The order in which the organizations are displayed in your list is based on your activities. Normally the one you worked with most recently is displayed at the top. But if a new organization was added since then, it is listed at the top. The rest are in alphabetic order below it.

Where can I find information on course retirement?

To find information on courses scheduled to be retired, course retirement policies and FAQ visit https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/retired-courses.aspx
